A color card is a representation of color using N.C. based color card lacquers as a coating medium.

How are color cards helpful?

I haven’t used a color card before. What is its purpose?  

A:

Manufacturers use color cards to illustrate all the shades of their product currently in the market. The consumer selects a shade from the color card he or she prefers. Color cards generally come with a code number that suppliers use to produce the color.

How is a color card manufactured?

What is a color depositing process?  

A:

We produce color cards through a color deposition process. A color-matched lacquer is pressed on a paper sheet with a matrix, bearing the design to be reproduced, mounted in the depositing unit of the machine.

How is this different from other shade card manufacturing processes?

Are their other color card producing processes?  

A:

There are a few other processes that are used for the production of shade cards like “striping” and “chipping”.

In striping, a series of stripes of color-matched lacquer is pressed on a continuous roll of paper using doctor blades. An oven is used for drying the paper. The swatches are then cut to width. In chipping, a sheet of paper is either spray- or roll-coated with color-matched lacquer. It is then cut into small “chips” and then glued to a substrate stock.
